Animals live all over the world — in jungles, oceans, deserts, and forests. The place where an animal naturally lives is called its habitat. Different animals need different habitats to survive, find food, and raise their young.

Animals can be grouped by what they eat. Carnivores eat only meat — like lions and sharks. Herbivores eat only plants — like elephants and rabbits. Omnivores eat both meat and plants — like bears and humans!

Most animals are either vertebrates (they have a backbone) or invertebrates (they don't). Mammals are a special group — they are warm-blooded, have fur or hair, and feed their babies with milk. Humans, dogs, whales, and elephants are all mammals!

Many animals migrate — they travel long distances to find food or warmer weather. The Arctic tern flies from the North Pole to the South Pole and back every year — a journey of over 70,000 km!

Sadly, many animals are endangered — there are very few left in the world. Animals like the tiger, giant panda 🐼, and blue whale are at risk because of habitat loss and hunting. We must protect them before they become extinct!
