Fruits are one of the most important foods we eat. They grow on trees, vines, and bushes all over the world. Fruits are sweet, sour, or tangy β and they are full of vitamins and nutrients that keep our bodies healthy.
Fruits are divided into two main groups. Tropical fruits grow in hot, humid climates near the equator β like mangoes, bananas, and pineapples. Temperate fruits grow in cooler climates β like apples, pears, and cherries.
All fruits contain seeds, which plants use to reproduce. Some seeds are tiny, like in strawberries. Others are large stones, like in peaches or avocados. Fruits spread their seeds by attracting animals to eat them β the seeds pass through the animal and grow somewhere new!
Did you know that tomatoes, cucumbers, and avocados are technically fruits? A fruit is any part of a plant that grows from a flower and contains seeds. This means many "vegetables" are actually fruits!
Fruits are packed with Vitamin C, fiber, and natural sugars. Eating a variety of colorful fruits every day helps prevent disease, boost your immune system, and give you energy. The more colors on your plate, the better! π
