Food is one of the most important parts of every culture around the world. What people eat, how they cook it, and who they eat with all say something about their history, geography, and traditions. Cuisine means the style of cooking from a particular country or region.

Different countries depend on different staple foods โ€” the basic foods that people eat every day. In East Asia, rice ๐Ÿš is the main staple. In Europe and the Middle East, bread ๐Ÿž is eaten at almost every meal. In Mexico and Central America, corn (maize) is used to make tortillas, tamales, and more.

The ingredients in food are also shaped by climate and geography. Countries near the sea, like Japan, eat a lot of fresh fish and seafood. Countries with hot climates, like India and Mexico, often use many spices to add flavor and also to help preserve food before refrigerators existed!

Some foods have spread all over the world through trade and migration. Pizza, originally from Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น, is now one of the most popular foods on Earth. Ramen, which came from China to Japan ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต, is now loved globally. Kimchi, Korea's famous fermented cabbage, is eaten in over 100 countries!

Sharing food is a powerful way to connect with people. In many cultures, sharing a meal is a sign of friendship, respect, and community. The word "companion" comes from Latin and literally means "someone you share bread with." Food really does bring us together!
