1. What is your opinion on the FIRE movement?
I think it can be one of the good ways to fulfill one's dream or live a happy life because some people would want less work in their life. They would want less pressure and stress in their life. If that's the case, FIRE movement can be realistic way to try. However, as we can't predict the future perfectly, I think people who prepare for early retirement should prepare well. They should also think about some side jobs when something unexpected happens.
2. What are some of your concerns about the FIRE movement.
I think people should find something else except earning money and having a job that can make them fully focused and enjoy. In my opinion, a lot of people including me sometime feel boredom when they have too much time on their hands. People often times don't know what to do, and have difficulty finding what they want to do. After retirement, people will have a lot of time and they need to have something they really enjoy.
I also had some times that I had a lot of freetime. I found myself puting off a lot of things that I thought I wanted to do when I have some more freetime because I know that I have a lot of time so I can do those things tommorrow or someday. People tend to be very lazy, including me. Sometimes the only thing make us do something is problems. When we encounter some problems we, do things to solve those problems. So I think we need to find something a bit challenging and something that makes us focus on when we have a lot of freetime.
3. When do you want to retire?
I used to dream of retiring as early as possible but now I don't want to retire early. I might retire around 70. I might work even in that age. Of course, I would like to take some breaks of work in my life but I think I'll keep working most of my life. But I would not work for a long time a day. I would work less in a day but I would still work some time. But I should be able to control my work. I should be able to choose to work or not to work overall.
There is a person named Hyeongseok Kim, who is over 100 years old but still working as a lecturer. He gives a lof of lectures a year. He also writes. He doesn't work for money. He thinks giving lectures and writing his books are very meaningful and he gets paid at the same time. I would also want that.
But I also would like to try 'vacation year' when I don't work at all. But not for 20 years.
4. What do you want to do when you retire?
I want to do voluteer work. I want to take care of orphans. I want to learn to paint. I want to paint a lot. I want to learn how to play the piano.
