A new project in the UK will "prescribe" activities like gardening and fishing to help children feel less lonely. This project is for kids aged nine to thirteen. It will study if these activities can reduce loneliness and improve mental health and school attendance.  
Social prescribing means linking people to community activities and groups to meet their social, emotional, and practical needs. Adults often use this method, but kids do not. Professor Daisy Fancourt from University College London says young people do not usually visit the doctor for help with loneliness like adults do.  
The project starts this year with twelve schools and about 100 pupils. Next year, it will expand to 30 schools, helping up to 600 students. Kids who feel lonely will get a connection worker. This worker will help them join activities they like, such as sports, arts, gardening, or fishing. The project will check if these activities improve the kids' wellbeing, mental health, and school attendance.
