South Korean smartphone users really enjoy watching YouTube. They spend about 40 hours each month on the app, which is almost two whole days! That's twice as much time as they did five years ago. In January, Koreans spent a huge amount of time on YouTube—111.9 billion minutes! That's a whole lot of screen time!  
YouTube is super popular in South Korea, even more than KakaoTalk, their favorite messaging app. One reason why YouTube got even more popular is because of Shorts. It's like TikTok but for quick videos. Since last year, people who make Shorts can earn money from ads, so there's more fun stuff to watch. TikTok isn't as big in South Korea as it is in other places. That's why YouTube Shorts is such a big hit there. Many young folks in South Korea use YouTube to find things they need, like a search engine. Especially kids between 10 and 20 years old love it. 

But YouTube isn't perfect. Some people are worried about wrong information and mean comments on the app. Also, YouTube is becoming the go-to place for music and shopping, giving free music to subscribers and becoming the top music app in South Korea. So, even though South Koreans really like YouTube, some are concerned about how much it's affecting their lives.
