In China, a new generation is joining their first public protest. On the streets they demand an end to the “zero-Covid policy.” This policy started 3 years ago. In Shanghai, protesters were quiet at first. They gathered to mourn the victims of the Xinjiang fire. Because of the COVID lockdowns, people could not escape from the fire in time. Protesters held up white papers, placed flowers at the site and remained silent. Then some people started to shout: "We don’t want lockdowns! We want freedom!"
