I'd like to ~

A polite way to say what you want to have, do, or ask for.

~하고 싶다 (정중하게)

PART 1 INPUT기본 개념과 핵심 패턴

Definition & Nuance의미와 쓰임새

A polite way to say what you want to have, do, or ask for.

Core Nuance'I'd like to' is the short form of 'I would like to.' It sounds softer and more polite than 'I want to.' Native speakers use it in restaurants, shops, hotels, and business situations, or any time they want to sound respectful.

~하고 싶습니다, ~하고 싶은데요 (정중한 표현)

  • 'I want to'보다 훨씬 부드럽고 예의 바른 표현입니다.
  • 식당, 가게, 호텔, 회사 등 격식이 필요한 상황에서 자주 씁니다.
  • 'would'가 들어가서 조심스럽고 공손한 느낌을 줍니다.

Common Patterns & Structures자주 쓰이는 패턴&구조

  1. I'd like to + 동사원형

하고 싶은 행동을 정중하게 말할 때 씁니다.

I'd like to order a coffee, please. 커피 한 잔 주문하고 싶은데요.

  2. I'd like + 명사

원하는 물건이나 것을 정중하게 요청할 때 씁니다.

I'd like a table for two, please. 두 명 자리로 부탁드립니다.

Common Mistakes이렇게 쓰면 틀려요

  • ✕ I'd like to ordering a pizza.

    ✓ I'd like to order a pizza.

'I'd like to' 뒤에는 동사원형이 옵니다. -ing 형태는 쓸 수 없습니다.

After 'I'd like to,' use the base form of the verb, not the -ing form.

  • ✕ I'd like a coffee to drink it.

    ✓ I'd like to drink a coffee.

동사와 명사를 함께 쓸 때는 'I'd like to + 동사 + 명사' 구조로 씁니다.

Use 'I'd like to + verb + noun.' Don't add an extra object pronoun at the end.
