James Harrison, one of the world’s most generous blood donors, has passed away. His special blood helped save over two million babies. Harrison died in his sleep at a nursing home in New South Wales, Australia, on February 17. His family shared the news on Monday. He was 88 years old. People called him "the man with the golden arm" because his blood contained a rare antibody called Anti-D. This antibody is used to make medicine for pregnant women whose blood might harm their unborn babies.  
Harrison decided to become a donor after he received blood transfusions during major chest surgery at age 14. He started donating plasma at 18 and continued every two weeks until he was 81. In 2005, he set a world record for donating the most plasma. His daughter, Tracey Mellowship, said he was proud of helping others. "He always said it doesn’t hurt, and the life you save could be your own," she said.  
Anti-D medicine protects babies from a serious blood disease. Before it was developed in the 1960s, many babies with this disease did not survive. There are fewer than 200 Anti-D donors in Australia, but they help about 45,000 mothers and babies each year. Scientists are now trying to create Anti-D in a lab to help even more people in the future.
