In July 2024, U.S. airlines handled 45.6 million bags—but not all of them made it back to their owners. Some of these bags end up at Unclaimed Baggage in Alabama. If a bag stays unclaimed after 90 days, the owner is paid, and the items inside are sold, donated, or recycled.

Some expensive things were found too—like a white gold diamond ring worth $39,000, a gold Rolex watch, and a $14,000 camera. But the most common items are everyday things like underwear, shoes, and phones. To avoid losing your luggage, try using a bright suitcase, adding an AirTag, and double-checking your seat before leaving the plane.
