A new study shows that more people in the U.S. now get their news from social media. About 54% use Facebook, X (Twitter), or YouTube to stay updated. This is more than those who watch TV news (50%) or visit news websites (48%). The study, from the Reuters Institute, says that social media is quickly becoming the main way people get news in the U.S. These changes are happening faster there than in other countries.  
One of the most well-known people online is podcaster Joe Rogan. Around 22% of Americans saw his news or opinions during one week. Many people now follow online influencers and news personalities. Some politicians choose to speak with them instead of traditional reporters. But these influencers often do not ask difficult questions. Some also spread false or confusing information.  
TikTok is the fastest-growing news app. Now, 17% of people around the world use it for news. Young people also use AI chatbots for news more than older adults. Still, many people trust big news brands. They believe these brands are more accurate and careful with facts. The study asked 100,000 people in 48 countries.
