Seoul Metro is testing a seatless subway car on Line 4 during rush hour to ease extreme overcrowding. Except for priority seats for the elderly and pregnant passengers, all other seats have been removed. In place of seats, wall cushions and additional grab handles have been installed to increase standing comfort and space. Passenger opinions are mixed—some find it helpful, while others want more improvements. If successful, Seoul plans to expand this idea to evening rush hours as well.
