Germany’s Economy and Climate Protection Minister labeled the plan as “greenwashing”. Greenwashing refers to when people are intentionally misled by governments and corporations about products and services being good for the environment. In 2021, many countries in Europe pledged to abide by the standards set at the COP26 climate summit. This proposal would become law in 2023 if the majority of EU members back it.
